Carl Ronald "Ronnie" Perkinson, 72 years of age, of Glebe Road, died Christmas day at home. Born on October the 4th, 1948, he was the son of the late Milton Andrew Perkinson and Mary Elizabeth Ayscue Perkinson. He was a 1975 Business Graduate of Campbell University of Buies Creek. Ronnie was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam where he was wounded March, 1968. He was physically retired from the Army. Ronnie received a Purple Heart in the field after his injuries and received a Purple Heart from the late President Lyndon Baines Johnson in Walter Reed Hospital. Ronnie also received the Bronze Star Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the M-14 Rifle Sharpshooter Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was also a member of Island Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, a teacher of the Milton Perkinson Sunday School Class, the Chairman of the Bicentennial Committee, a member of the Baptist Men’s and Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He was the organizer of the Wild Game Supper every year for the Baptist Men of the Church. Ronnie was a member of the American Legion Post 60, the Military Order of the Purple Heart - Chapter 637, Honorary Member of the Support U.S. Armed Forces, Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He and many friends went to several trips in Nebraska rabbit hunting. Ronnie was recognized and honored on a hunting trip at Melon Creek Outfitters and Wildlifers Hunt Show for Purple Heart Recipients. Ronnie was also an honorary member of the Inez Hunting Club. His civic involvement included membership in the Townsville Lions Club, where he served as treasurer for over twenty- five years and the Zeb Vance Ruritan Club. Ronnie was a true friend to everyone he met, and he never met a stranger. To know Ronnie Perkinson was to LOVE him. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Wednesday, December 30th at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Johnny Yount and Rev. Marshall Neathery at Island Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Ronnie is survived by his wife of fifty years, Gale Franklin Perkinson of the home; three sons, Andrew James Perkinson and wife Kimberly Woodard Perkinson, Adam Jason Perkinson and wife Kecia Price Perkinson, and Aaron Johnathan Perkinson and wife Heather Green Perkinson all of Henderson; seven grandchildren, Carly Andrea Perkinson and fiance, Mike Causey, Callie Brooke Perkinson, Adleigh Rose Perkinson, Michael Johnathan Perkinson, Deacon Drake Perkinson, Destiny Faith Woodard, Christopher Lee Boone; a brother, Royce Taylor Perkinson and wife Joyce of Warrenton; one nephew, Bradley Taylor Perkinson and wife Jill; one niece, Heather Perkinson Greenway; three great nieces, Jordan Reese and Devin Leigh Greenway, and Emory Elizabeth Perkinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Minnie Ferguson Perkinson and Oscar Edwin Perkinson; maternal grandparents, Oza Pearl Faulkner Ayscue and Walter Gerome "Taylor" Ayscue; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Elvis Franklin and Helen Gray Ayscue Franklin; and step-grandson Clayton Benjamin Gentry. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service. At other times they will be at the home. Serving as pallbearers are: Kent Currin, Leon Dillard, Brent Edwards, Charles Faulkner, Buster Granger, Tom Howell, Rudy Hunt, Andy Roberson, John Winstead and members of the US Army Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Ball, Donnie Hogge, Bob Morgan, Willie Jack Stem, Reeves Jones, Charlie Keeter, Paul Brown, John Henry Williamson, all deacons of Island Creek Baptist Church, Townsville Lions Club Members, the Kittrell Ruritan Club, the Inez Hunting Club and the American Legion Post 60.
