Katie Farrell

HENDERSON- Katie Lou Ferrell, 88, died August 31, 2020 at Maria Parham Health. Born September 4, 1931 in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George and Grace (McMichen) Ixos. Katie enjoyed a diverse nursing career, beginning at Logan Regional Medical Center, in Logan, WV. In recognition of her many years of volunteering with community blood drives, and during disasters, she received a Lifetime American Red Cross award. When Katie and her husband Eugene relocated to Arizona, they lived on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. While in San Carlos, she worked in both hospital and flight nursing. Later, they moved to Page, AZ near the Navajo Reservation, where Katie served as a school nurse for the Navajo Nation district. She concluded her nursing career in Wickenburg, AZ, where she returned to the community hospital setting and also provided private care in patient�s homes. In 1999, Katie and Gene moved to Henderson, NC following her retirement. Katie is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bethel Eugene Ferrell; daughter, Georgia Ferrell; and many special nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers James and Dorman Ixos. No services are scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to a favorite charitable group or organization, or perform a random act of kindness and compassion in her memory.
