HENDERSON- Lennie Lee Swanson, Jr., 81, of Dabney Dr, died Thursday, April 09, 2020 at his home. Born in Vance County on September 10, 1938, he was the son of the late Lennie Lee Swanson, Sr. and Selma Woodlief Swanson. Lennie was a 1956 graduate of Henderson High School, where he followed his love of baseball by playing on the team for four years, a post graduate of Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and he earned a master’s degree in education from North Carolina Central University. He was a retired administrator with the Durham Public School System and more recently retired as a rural mail carrier in Vance County. Lennie was a devoted lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Henderson. A private graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery by Rev. Bobby Fletcher. A public memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at a later date. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Balkcum Swanson of the home; his son, Lennie Lee "Len" Swanson, III of Raleigh; his sister, Nancy Swanson Perry (Jack) of Clinton; brother and sister in law, John and Judy Coon of Decatur, AL; brother and sister-in-law, WR and Teresa Balkcum of Wilmington; sister-in-law, Patricia Balkcum of Florence, SC; special nieces and nephews, close family and friends. Anyone wishing to view Mr. Swanson may do so on Friday, April 10, 2020 from 1:00pm until 5:00pm at J.M. White Funeral Home.
