HENDERSON- Ulysses Jones "U.J." Parrott, Jr., 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Born in Vance County on January 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Ulysses Jones Parrott, Sr. and Hazel White Parrott. U.J. was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II with the rank of Corporal and was the proud recipient of the Victory medal, American Theater medal and the Good Conduct medal. He retired from McCracken Enterprises with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church where he faithfully served the Church as a Sunday school teacher as well as held several leadership positions throughout his life. He was a member of the Henderson Exchange Club. He enjoyed playing baseball and football in his younger days and would continue to love watching Atlanta Braves baseball whenever possible. He enjoyed playing golf and played until he was 84 years old. For over 15 years, he was a member of The Silver Melodies playing in area nursing homes each week. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He had an amazing memory and sense of humor that will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 3pm at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by Rev. Robin Farner and Dr. Michael Hobbs. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Parrott Smith and husband, Gary of Summerfield; his grandson, Jordan Smith; his brother, Robert Parrott and wife Charlotte of Fuquay-Varina; two sisters-in-law, Jennie Parrott of Henderson and Betty Parrott of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Rachel Moody Parrott; and two brothers, Charles Parrott and Jere Parrott. The family will receive friends prior the service from 1:30 till 3:00 PM in the fellowship hall of the church. Serving as active pallbearers will be Jordan Smith, Tyler Bona, Eric Credle, Nicholas Credle, Matthew Credle, Jim Roy, Slade Roy, and Jimmy Twisdale. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Flat Rock United Methodist Church, 2560 Satterwhite Point Rd., Henderson. NC 27537.
