OXFORD- Jerry Arnold Faulkner, 85, died at home on December 2, 2019. Born in Vance County on July 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Howard V. Faulkner and Bessie E. Faulkner of Gillburg, N.C. in Vance County. Jerry was a 1952 graduate of Henderson High School and attended Louisburg College where he excelled at baseball. He was a lifelong member of Dexter Baptist Church, serving in positions for over 50 years, as a Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Church Trustee, Choir Member, Sunday School Superintendent and Church Treasurer. He had served as Moderator for the Flat River Baptist Association and as Chairman of the Republican Party of Vance County. He was also a member of the Gideon’s International Granville Camp. Jerry was a bookkeeper for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 32 years and was a franchise owner and employee of H & R Block for over 45 years. He was a charter founder and bookkeeper for the Vance Granville Athletic Association softball league, and the Hicksboro Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the United States Army with the rank of Private First Class serving in Occupied Germany based in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He played baseball for the U.S. Army while stationed there. He was an avid birdwatcher and was famous for feeding hundreds of hummingbirds each summer. In 2016, (Ret.) Senator Tamara Barringer awarded Jerry the N.C. Senate certificate of recognition for a lifetime of achievements and service to his church and community, spanning over 50 years. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 3:00pm at Dexter Baptist Church by Rev. Wayne Clark and Rev. Neil Woodlief. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall at the church from 2:00-3:00pm. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Otherwise, the family will receive friends at the home of Jerry & Mae Faulkner. Preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mae Hicks Faulkner and his siblings, Evelyn F. Ayscue, Doris F. Ayscue, Cecil U. Faulkner, H.V. Faulkner, Jr., Allison R. Faulkner, Maria P. Faulkner, Charlotte D. Faulkner and Harold M. Faulkner. He is survived by his son, Brandon H. Faulkner of Charlotte, NC; his daughter, Tara F. Graham and husband Steve of Oxford, NC; and three grandchildren, Brendan C. Graham, Maria Kate Graham and Benjamin C. Faulkner; John Payne and wife Tracy and children Kayleigh Payne Burns, Declan, Cassidy, Aidan and Shay Payne of Wilmington, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. We want to give special thanks to his caregivers, Jenny Barton and June Hunt. Serving as active pallbearers will be Brendan C. Graham, Benjamin C. Faulkner, Robert "Robbie" W. Fuller Jr., Jonathan "Jon" T. Fuller, Russell W. Stevenson, Rodney N. Dickerson, R. Bailey Barker, Chris P. Nutt, N. Keith Jones, Thomas B. Harris, and J. Thomas "Tommy" Bennett, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Daryl Faulkner, Barry Faulkner C.F. Ayscue, Bob Fuller, Jeff Fuller, Linwood Faulkner, Howard Faulkner, Bobby Faulkner, Betty & Cotton Clayton, Alton Clayton, Adrian Brame, Ernest Breedlove, Bobby Norwood, C.T. Norwood, Carlton Lee Norwood, Robert Dickerson, Gideon’s and Gideon’s wives, the former Vance Granville Athletic Association and the Hicksboro Volunteer Fire Department.
