DREWRY-Victoria Anne Norwood died peacefully at home in the Drewry area of Warren County on November 5, 2019. The daughter of the late Amy Rose Spain and Stanley Carl Norwood, Vickie was born in Vance County on June 26, 1947. She was a graduate of Middleburg High School and attended East Carolina University. She was a generous and loving person who devoted much of her life to caring for elders and children in her family. She was also a much-loved substitute teacher and served as a social worker in the community. She made friends and connections with people from all walks of life, and she will be greatly missed. Vickie was living on the family homeplace, in the house with her daughter Carla and son-in-law Gabriel Cumming. She loved nothing better than spending time with her grandchildren, Juniper, Samuel, and Silas Cumming and Joseph and Janey Rose Norwood. She is also survived by members of her extended family, including Nancy Hayden Spain (Hampton, VA), Stephen Young Norwood (homeplace), Michael Dean Norwood (Hillsborough), Kenneth Michael Norwood (homeplace), Amy Norwood Williamson (Henderson), Cynthia Roberson Bowen (Henderson), Chris Norwood (Raleigh), Chad Norwood (Greensboro), Maddie Norwood (Hillsborough), Max Norwood (Hillsborough) and Torre Caparatta (Greensboro). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great-aunt Anne Spain, and one brother, Stanley Carl Norwood, Jr. A memorial gathering in honor of Vickie will be held on Sunday, November 10. All are welcome. Attendees are invited to arrive beginning at 2 PM; the program will begin at 2:30 PM. The gathering will take place at the home she shared with her daughter Carla: 164 Norwood Lane, Manson, NC. Most of the parking will be along Spain Road. From Spain Road, attendees will walk down Norwood Lane (1/4 mi gravel drive) to the home. Those unable to walk may drive down Norwood Lane to the home (there is limited parking available). The gathering will take place outdoors; please dress warmly and wear shoes that are comfortable for walking. During the program, those who wish to speak about Vickie will have an opportunity to do so. Following the program, attendees are invited to have light refreshments in the home; contributions of food or drink are welcome but not necessary. If you have any questions, please contact Carla at 252-456-3471.
