Time of Service: 3:00 PM

HENDERSON- Anne Cannady Cole, 89, of Henderson, passed peacefully at her home on September 25, 2019. Born in Oxford, on September 19, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Ellis Cannady and Ora Wootten Cannady. Anne was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to many. Anne grew up in Oxford graduating from Oxford High School where she was a majorette in the band and later attended Meredith College, where she played all offered sports including basketball, softball and volleyball and served as assistant horse trainer. She retired in 1994 from EM Rollins School after 26 years of service in an administrative capacity. Anne enjoyed her time at EM Rollins, where she was known for her mischievous nature and kept several water pistols in her desk and at the ready. Her ride down the school halls on a motorcycle was legendary. Anne was an avid horsewoman from an early age and had horses of her own for over 20 years. She spent much of her time at "The Farm" where she cared for many horses, dogs and cats daily. During the summers much time was spent at horse shows or the beach. Anne was a competitive bowler, gardener and was active in several Bridge clubs. After retirement Anne volunteered at Maria Parham Hospital and other local organizations. During basketball and football season Anne was pulling for her NC State Wolfpack and all ACC schools. Anne faithfully attended First Presbyterian Church of Henderson, where she was an active member. Anne’s outgoing nature and ready sense of humor made her a favorite with new and prospective church members. A friend to anyone she met, Anne was also very humble, often more concerned with the well-being of her visitors than her own plight as she fought a lengthy battle with cancer. Anne is survived by her daughter, Mary Cole Moore and husband, Kenneth Moore of Raleigh, NC, grandson, Cole Ammons and granddaughters Jackie Ammons and Sammie Ammons and brother Nathaniel Ellis Cannady Jr. of Asheville, NC. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin Luther Cole, Jr. and sister, Mary Adams Outten of Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive friends and loved ones at J. M. White Funeral Home of Henderson, on Saturday September 28th from 4-6 PM. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 3:00pm by Rev. Matthew Copple at First Presbyterian Church of Henderson. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the fellowship hall. Special thanks to those caregivers that allowed Anne to remain in her home as she struggled with the health challenges related to her cancer; her full-time caregiver Libby Reid was most faithful. Other loving caregivers included: Tonya, Latesha, Sandy, and Pam. Each of you provided the comfort that she greatly appreciated in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either The First Presbyterian Church of Henderson or the Vance County Animal Shelter in her memory.
