Date of Service: Sunday, June 30, 2019

Time of Service: 3:00 PM

It is with great sadness the family shares that Marjorie Jean Grissom Glover (Doodle), 84, of Henderson, NC passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019 after an extended period of declining health. She was born in Vance County on March 5, 1935 to the late Rosa Lee Pulley Grissom and Wallace Grissom. She graduated from Zeb Vance High School with honors, where she was an outstanding athlete on their Basketball team. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and attended Herman United Methodist Church. She married the late David Manell Glover, Jr. in 1955. Together they lived and worked on the family farm while raising three children and, as she said, "enough livestock and vegetables to feed Vance County". In addition to working on the farm, Jean worked many years at Roses, BellSouth, and Americal. Jean was a very spiritual, kind, humble, and patient woman with a strong work and moral ethic. Family and friends were her life’s focus. With fond memories, many a summer was spent picking, shelling, canning, and freezing vegetables from the gardens. Company was always invited to stay for dinner and she and her late husband, David, hosted many well known brunswick stews and pig-pickin’ cookouts. She is survived by her three children, Deborah Glover Jones, David Manell Glover III, and Linda Glover Wilson and her husband, Butch. She is survived by eight grandchildren-Justin, Cameron, and Weston Jones, Zachary and Katelin Wilson, Clinton, Kyle, and Jacob Glover, and five great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Betty Lou Grissom and Martha Grissom. In addition to her late parents and husband, she is predeceased by two brothers, Charles A. (Bro) and Wallace (Ray) Grissom; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Daniel and Mickey Wilkerson. Funeral service will be on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at 3pm at J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Yount. Interment to follow in Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-2:45 at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Butch and Linda Wilson, 699 St. Andrews Church Rd. Henderson.
