Carolyn R. Brook, 76, daughter of the late Elvin Lee and Alma Wilson Royster of Clarksville, VA died May 8, 2019 in Fairfax, VA. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry W. Brook. She is also survived by her brother, Robert L. Royster, of Pinehurst, NC and her sister, Esther R. Tyler (Pete) of Arlington, VA. She leaves behind 3 nephews and 7 great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves 3 stepchildren: Dr. Gail Arthur of Harrisonburg, VA, Dr. Michael Brook of Los Altos, CA, and Carol Quintero of Harrisonburg, VA. Her stepchildren gave her 9 step grandchildren. Ms. Brook grew up in Clarksville, VA and graduated from Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. Her career as a legal secretary for over 17 years was at a law firm in Richmond, VA, Air India in Washington, D.C., and at NFS (Nuclear Fuel Service) in Rockville, MD where she met Hank Brook. She then became a homemaker and mom. In their 37 years, the Brooks lived all over the country including Rockville, MD, La Canada, CA, Mt. Kisco, NY, McLean, VA, Bellevue, WA, Los Gatos, CA, and Carlsbad, CA. They moved back east to Durham, NC in 2006 and to Lorton, VA in 2015 to be closer to family. The family made many trips back to the east coast to visit as the boys were growing up. Over the years, Ms. Brook enjoyed gardening, golfing, cooking, and decorating. The Brooks often hosted big Super Bowl parties for friends to gather. She enjoyed her home but especially enjoyed her sons and was so happy to be a grandmother. Family was the most important thing to her. Services will be held Friday, May 17 at 4:00 p.m. at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Avenue W, Vienna, VA. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the Royster Family Cemetery in Bullock, NC. The family asks that donations may be made in her name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3 International Drive Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573 or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. Local arrangements are by J.M. White Funeral Home.
