HENDERSON-Betty Lou Sanford Pegram, 81, a resident of 2016 Newton Dairy Road, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 24, 1937 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Leach Sanford and Maude Faucette Sanford. Betty Lou was the owner and operator of Pegram’s Daycare. She was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, the Couples Sunday School Class, and was a volunteer for the Cokesbury Volunteer Fire Department. She loved and raised many children through the daycare and kept in touch with them throughout her life. She was a Servant of the Lord, and was a devoted wife to her husband for over 61 years of marriage. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. Julia Alliger and the Rev. Wayne Clark. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Elmus Gray Pegram of the home; two daughters, Donna P. Boyd (Keith) of Henderson, and Patricia P. Woodlief, (Allen) of Norlina; two sons, Ronnie Dale Pegram (Janet) of Henderson and Randy Gray Pegram of Wake Forest; three sisters, Sylvia S. Arnold and Nell S. Clark of Henderson, and Carolyn S. Denton of Zebulon; three brothers, Gilbert Sanford of Jacksonville, Freddie Sanford of Henderson, and Richard Sanford of Louisburg; ten grandchildren, Judith Pegram, Matthew Pegram (Gina), Shannon Pegram, Thomas Boyd (Morgan) Kristen Golding, Tori Woodlief, Kara Pegram, Trey Woodlief, Stephanie Pegram, and Jonathan Boyd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Gene Sanford and Marshall Sanford. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 2:30 until 3:50 pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. At other times they will be at the home. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Clark, Lynn Arnold, Dennis Sanford, Brad Pegram, Kenneth Abbott, Jr., and Jason Pegram. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, c/o Ruth Moss, 1705 Allison Cooper Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
